The mission of the Office of Teaching and Learning is to support school system priorities that focus on the instructional core by leading the development and implementation of well-designed differentiated curriculum and instructional programs that build 21st century skills, foster social emotional learning, and prepare students for life after high school, job readiness, college and careers.

  • Revise the pre-K through 12 curriculum to ensure alignment with common core state standards and outcomes
  • Provide training and support to member districts and SPEED schools for  adapting and modifying curriculum and programs to support all learners
  • Create formative assessment tools to monitor all student progress
  • Provide direct support to member district schools and SPEED programs to facilitate effective implementation of curriculum, assessments, and instructional programs using an Multi-tiered Systems of Support
  • Support the design and delivery of professional development that ensures fidelity of curriculum implementation across all schools at SPEED and in member districts
  • Refine instructional programs that meet the needs of diverse learners, including students with disabilities, those who are highly able, English language learners, and students who are at risk of underachievement because of poverty
  • Facilitate communication with employee organizations, parents, community groups, and institutions of higher education regarding curriculum, instruction, and assessment
